Having Tough Conversations
Find a confident state, plan the arc of a tough conversation, and help manage emotions on both sides
Virtual or in-person

About this workshop
Most of us don't look forward to tough conversations and some of us avoid them altogether. But we know that the leaders who successfully lean into difficult conversations are the ones whose teams perform best. In this workshop we teach a reliable model to help participants plan any tricky conversation and deliver what they need to say with confidence and poise.
What we cover
- Using the Confident Communicator model to identify one's emotional state and find the confident quadrant before the conversation
- Planning the arc of the conversation with the Tough Conversations Model, from goals and positive intent through the No-Drama Feedback Model to a follow-up
- Helping both people manage emotions during the conversation
Participant impact and skill development
- Improved confidence and competence at having tough conversations, leading to better performance management
- Improved delivery of constructive feedback
- Better receptivity and processing of feedback from direct reports
- Enhanced communication and alignment between managers and team members
Keep the learning alive
Short videos from Elevate's Learning Library reinforce this workshop after the session. Managers can rewatch them anytime or use them with their own teams.

We had participants tell us that this was their favorite manager training ever in their careers. We also now have a slew of new managers who we feel are much better enabled to handle new or tough situations and support their growing teams.
